Ambidexterity

I'm a lefty, and it runs in the family. I write with my left hand and normally use it for personal and household tasks. It is a fact that writing is not as precise an indicator of handedness as it might seem, because many left-handed people write with their right hand but use their left hand for other tasks.

Approximately 8 to 15% of the adult population is left-handed. They say that left-handers' brains are structured differently in a way that widens their range of abilities, and the genes that determine left-handedness also govern development of the language centers of the brain.

Being ambidextrous is one of my goals.

The word "ambidextrous" is derived from the Latin roots ambi, meaning "both," and dexter, meaning "right" (as opposed to left) or favorable. Thus, "ambidextrous" is literally "right on both sides".

It can be learned. The key in learning is to start paying attention to minor tasks and performing them with one's opposite hand daily. While difficult at first, minor tasks like brushing teeth, opening doors, and eating will become steadily easier if a person keeps at it.

With this in mind, I want to share this information that I came across with years ago, and am still fascinated to it.

Well, it is said that Mohammed and Caesar could, upon occasions, perform two distinct mental operations--such as writing a letter and carrying on a conversation--simultaneously. Not having interviewed either of them I am unable to confirm this. I can, however, vouch for the fact that the present generation has produced a remarkable young man who can make his brain do six different things at the same time--involving, according to the psychologists, no fewer than 14 separate mental processes-a series of exercises leading to the Development of Greater Mental Power. A true course in Right/Left Brain training, Development of Creative Intelligence and Conscious Fostering of Intuitive Powers.

Harry Kahne was an extraordinary human being. As shown in the picture, he is writing with both hands, both feet, and his mouth simultaneously. The right hand is writing backwards and in reverse, and the mouth is writing backwards but correctly. Just one of his many extraordinary multitasking feats.

congratulations! you've got new posts! :D

I really like this post. When I was younger, I trained myself to write with my left (since I'm righthanded)...so that in case something happens to my right hand, i can still manage to write...or do other stuff...but now my left thumb has some difficulty gripping it hurts...but still, i like the idea of being ambidextrous...

Also, my official signature when I was still single was written from right to left that when you read it through a mirror, then will you only see the right signature...

Reading backwards is also easy for me...part of the training I did on my own... :D

It's cool being ambidextrous...

I envy my stepdad...he paints...oil, watercolor...when he gets tired using his right, he goes for the left... try to see his works at http://mtevangelista.tripod.com

My stepdad was one...pag napagod na sya magpinta sa kaliwa, sa kanan naman...you can see his works at http://mtevangelista.tripod.com
