Postcard Perfect - Mt. Pulag

Cold, exhausted...but nonetheless, happy...

marching to the top of Mt. Pulag

"The first question which you will ask and which I must try to answer is this, "What is the use of climbing a mountain?" and my answer must at once be, "It is no use." There is not the slightest prospect of any gain whatsoever. We may learn a little about the behavior of the human body at high altitudes, but otherwise nothing will come of it. It's no use. So, if you cannot understand that there is something in man which responds to the challenge of a mountain and goes out to meet it, that the struggle is the struggle of life itself upward and forever upward, then you won't see why I go. What I get from this adventure is just sheer joy. And joy is, after all, the end of life. I do not live to eat and make money. I eat and make money to be able to enjoy life. That is what life means for me and what life is for."

i love this shot...it evokes various feelings and memories...

Others have told me how dangerous climbing a mountain can be. But I just don't see it that way. I love how the sun bathes me in it's full glory, the splutter of rain when it overtakes us in our trek, the little things on the way that catches my attention every now and then, the pure will of heaving my body to make that next step, and make it to the final stop-the final destination.

simply breathtaking...

Last March 30-April 2, 2007 we went to conquer Mt. Pulag. I never thought that such a mountain trek at Mt. Pulag would be as tough as it seemed. Mt. Pulag is considered the second highest mountain in the Philippines (9,645 feet above sea level. It is located in the island of Luzon, covering 11,500 hectares and lies along the Grand Cordillera Central Mountain Ranges.

...stop and smell the flowers...

Considered as one of the most beautiful National Parks in the Cordillera Area, the ranges cover portions of the provinces of Benguet, Ifugao and Nueva Vizcaya. Mt. Pulag is naturally different from the rainforest peaks in the Philippines because of its open area where the summit of Mt. Pulag is covered with grass and dwarf bamboo plants. At lower altitudes, the mountainside has a mossy forest cloaked with fog, and covered with ferns, lichens and moss. The mountain is said to be comparable to the Chocolate Hills of Bohol during the dry season, while during the rainy monsoon season, it is camouflaged with all sorts of shades of green just like a typical golf-course. Locals of Benguet believed this to be a playing ground of their gods.

Mountain climbing is also one of my favorite past time. It gives me the recharge of my life especially when I'm in my lowest. It gives you this sense of awe and admiration to God's creation. the deafening silence on the mountain peakis the majestic roar of God's voice speaking in your heart.

Thanks for the nice message you dropped there in OTWOMD. Your blog is not senseless. in fact it is sensible. you just have to update it every once in a while and you also have to include the link to your site everytime you leave a comment. hahaha

I had a hard time looking for this blog of yours kasi wala ito sa feed reader ko, kasi din, dahil di ko makita RSS Feed ng blog mo. most of the blogs I visit is nasa feed reader kaya I don't anymore go blog hopping in browsers. hindi ko makita kung nasan RSS moeh. but anyhow I have already bookmarked your blog in my browser.

anyhow hope will be blogmates. I just passed by on my site when I saw your comment waiting for moderation. I was about to pray online because I have a daily gospel passage in my site. dumaan lang ako para dumalaw at magpasalamat na rin for those wonderful words you left there.

till here. Still have to pray then review pa. God Bless and all the best!

PS. sana install mo yung RSS feed mo hehehe.

Unbelievable! I read on the news that there was this Filipina from Nueva Viscaya ba yon? who went up to Mt. Everest which is why, they are making this buzz to drum up tourism in this area para daw mamundok na lang sila.

Pero di ba nakakatakot here with so many NPA's?

Anak pedeng maglagay ka nang subscription sa comments para naaalala nang lola mo? he he he
